I began Egyptian dance with avant guard artist Suraya Hilal and her company of musicians in
London in 1986. During 1990/1992, I was part of "The dance Theater of Egypt", the pioneering
dance company founded by Hilal which toured in major venues in England and Europe.
Since then, dance has never left me. I have been part of numerous projects as a dancer, dance
teacher and choreographer in The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and the UK with major artists in
the tradition of Egyptian/Arabic dance and music.
Currently, I am training in Hilal dance, the contemporised universal form created by Suraya Hilal. Although this contemporary form of movement finds its roots in African and Middle eastern traditions, it departs from cultural boundaries through its recognition of the body as a holistic
being.
I teach traditional and contemporary forms of Egyptian dance.
Dance is for me an ongoing path of self-growth and constant renewal of the life force. It is for me a world of endless creative and transformational possibilities for all movers and non-movers.
